Skiing and Boarding

Zell am See is part of the Europa Sport Region Ski Area with access to 130km of downhill skiing and 72 individual pistes. In addition to the skiing in Zell am See itself (80km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Europa Sport Region ski resorts of Kaprun and Kitzsteinhorn.

Professional instructors and ski schools show beginners how to master the art of skiing, whilst the various ski hire companies supply you with all the relevant equipment for snow fun.

Snowboarders find the very best conditions on the Schmittenhöhe where you can practise daring stunts or leave the first trails in untouched snow.

In search of black pistes you will soon strike lucky on Schmittenhöhe where there are as many as nine downhill runs (25 kilometres) of the most difficult category, complemented by another 52 kilometres of pistes marked in red or blue.

Cable cars from Zell Am See ascend to the ridge on either side of the Schmittenhohe from December to mid April. All year round Glacier skiing is also available at Kitzsteinhorn (3203m) just 15 minutes drive from the apartment.

Combined ski passes for the Schmittenhohe and Kitzsteinhorn region cost from €66/33 per adult/child for a minimum two day period.  Ski buses are free for ski pass holders and the nearest bus stop is directly opposite the apartment.

For non-skiers, there is a toboggan run at Zell Am See, and winter walking trails on the Schmittenhoehe make it possible for skiers and non-skiers to meet for lunch. Zell Am See has a leisure centre with swimming pool and ice rink, and some of the larger hotels have spa facilities which can be used by non-guests.
